Earlier this year I had the privilege of speaking at our local ecological festival, Renew Fest. I had some reservations about my talk - do I go 'deep' into my current thinking of how business and ecology co-exist; or simply deliver the same generic 'ethical business' speech that everyone in this 'conscious business' scene seems to speak to?
Ultimately, the pull to vulnerability won out - after 10 years of the highs and lows of SuperFeast, I felt it was time to delve into the 'shadow' of being in business.
Over the years, SuperFeast has prided itself on what we called an 'Earth-First' policy. That sounds lovely, right? But what does that term actually mean? And, is there a better way we can communicate the ever-emerging mission that we are on?
Yes, we do amazing things behind the scenes that we could promote way more than we do (you can read more about those things here).
BUT, I also feel the time is right to be having an upgraded conversation. Let's start talking about the good AND the bad - let's shine a light on the areas of business that are dictated by consumer demand.
We'd love you to join us on this authentic path of doing business; where we do the absolute best we can for the planet and our community - whilst not using that to justify 'shadow' areas that can be improved. We are about having the real conversations that allow the entire SuperFeast community to emerge beyond simply being associated with a nice 'eco brand' - but an actual evolving, expanding, and community-driven force for good.
We live-streamed the talk on Facebook. You can view the talk here (and give us a 'like' while you're there!).
Please let us know your thoughts on the topics discussed - we'd love to hear what you have to say about the 'shadow' of business.
