Let’s explain the difference between Yin Jing and Yang Jing first.
While the other organs have their own Yin and Yang, the Kidneys form the centre of the body’s YinYang. Kidney Essence generates Kidney Qi, which in turn transforms into both Kidney Yin and Yang to serve different functions within the body. It is the harmony of these two forces that facilitate the strengthening of our Jing Essence. Think of your Jing Essence as the foundational life force energy that resides in your Kidneys. To dive deeper into Jing Essence, read our article Jing: What Is It? How To Cultivate It.
Corresponding to these forces of Yin and Yang, Jing herbs can be separated into two separate areas - Yin Jing and Yang Jing herbs. The harmony of these two energies brings fortification to our life force, vitality, expression and longevity.
According to Master Ron Teeguarden, ‘Yin is defined as the cyclic rhythm of nature in which energy is being accumulated, assimilated and stored for later use’.
The Yin Jing herbs are cooling, moistening and nourishing in nature, they replenish the fundamental reserves of the body, mind and Spirit.
Yang is defined as the ‘cyclic rhythm of nature in which energy is being expended in order to create a manifest action’. Yang Jing herbs are activating, drying and warm/hot in nature as they can have a profound effect in building up the Yang within the body, mind and Spirit. Known for their invigorating qualities, Yang Jing herbs are often used to support creative energy and athletic power, and to build sexual capacity.
The Health Benefits of Deer Antler
Deer Antler nourishes both Yin Jing and Yang Jing, however, it is commonly used and classified as a Yang Jing tonic. Traditionally used throughout Asia to strengthen adrenal, reproductive and brain functions, deer antler promotes vitality, builds Blood and improves circulation and heart health.
Deer antler is considered in these traditions to be highly effective in the treatment of cardiovascular dysfunction, overall failure to thrive, osteoporosis, bone fractures, impotence, arthritis, general fatigue and cold and weakened constitutions.
Deeply replenishing, deer antler builds strength and power in the body. When taken consistently over long periods of time, this herb has been used to replenish the deep reservoirs of our life force, assisting in recovery from exhaustion and enhancing vitality and longevity.
*If this is all new to you, and you feel unsure about whether you are experiencing a Yin or Yang imbalance, then it’s best to work with a Chinese medicine practitioner/acupuncturist who can help you to develop an understanding of your constitution, especially if you have any pre-existing medical conditions.
Sourcing
Our SuperFeast Deer Antler is collected from the antlers of Cervus nippon deer, who roam freely in their native environment where they can sustain themselves on wild oak leaves alongside an organic diet. The deer antler is the harvested young horn of Cervus nippon deer, taken as it is undergoing the formation of new mammalian bone. The deer are never raised for meat. They enjoy clean and non-crowded stalls and exploring open pastures daily.
