Can I Combine My Herbs?

Tonic herbs typically work in synergy with one another, with collaborative powers to help support you on your health journey. We encourage you to explore herbal combinations; our herbs are known as 'Superior herbs' and they are effective, safe and generally very well-tolerated.

Short answer: YES

A super common question we get at HQ is "Can I take my herbs together?" I am very pleased to tell you the answer is: yes, yes, yes.

Your Herbs Work In Synergy Together

It is very safe and completely fine to combine your herbs together into your own unique blend (in fact, that is essentially what we do with our very own SuperFeast blends, though Mason crafts these carefully in a way that is designed to make them extra potent and purposeful). Tonic herbs typically work in synergy with one another, with collaborative powers to help support you on your health journey. We encourage you to explore herbal combinations; our herbs are known as 'Superior herbs' and they are effective, safe and generally very well-tolerated. The herbs we work with are traditionally formulated to carry a certain intention and energetic within the body.

Your reaction may be to take *ALL* the herbs at once (immunity is king, right?!) but please remember, these herbs, while gentle and safe, are very potent. The mushrooms in particular are very relevant for immunity, but there is no need to take (or over-purchase) several herbs at once because the tonic herbs you already have in your kitchen, are supporting your body in the exact way it needs at the moment (adaptogen power!) If you are feeling overwhelmed at the moment and need some grounding tips on how to look after your immunity, we've shared our ideas here. We recommend starting with one or two blend products (Mason's Mushrooms, JING, QI, etc) or two or three individual products (Reishi, Chaga, Astragalus, Schisandra, etc), and build your collection from there if desired.

We have an easy to read list over here, which runs you through our fave herb combos to support you working through specific health intentions (e.g. brain support, feeling extra stressed and immunity).

Our potent tonic herbs are:

  • 100% herbal extracts only (no nasties, fillers, preservatives etc)
  • Not temperature-sensitive
  • Can be added to hot, or cold, foods and drinks (#howitrojan)

If you head over to our recipes, you will find heaps of inspo and you will see that many of the recipes include multiple herbs in there.

How To Combine Herbs

Simply add 1/4 - 1 teaspoon of your chosen herbs to your drink, or meal. It's really that simple.

A Special Note on our Blends

We have a range of specially formulated blends, which are ready to go. But we do invite you to be considerate of the dose and ratio when doing so. Here's an example: you are vibing JING (a blend), Cordyceps (a single herb) and Mason’s Mushrooms (a blend) at the moment. So be aware that JING and Mason’s *also* contain Cordyceps so when mixing all three you’re getting a triple (approximate) Cordyceps dose. There is nothing to be concerned about here, just be aware. In this regard we encourage you to feel out your dosage and take the amount that feels aligned and innate to your individual body’s needs.

The Ones We Don't Love Combining (Due To Taste!)

Some people can find certain flavor combinations more complementary than others. For example:

  • Schisandra,
  • Beauty Blend, and
  • MSM are generally more palatable taken on their own, or mixed more with citrus-y flavours. NOT to say they can not be combined with other herbs, this advice is purely for taste only!

We Love Working With Herbs Individually, Too

We also really love working with the tonic herbs individually, as this gives us the space to cultivate an accurate awareness of how their medicine is unfolding in our systems. Taking herbs individually really allows you to develop a personal relationship with the herb, you can feel into how it works with your body and get a sense of the magic.

We love being intentional about taking tonic herbs. Making a ritual out of our tonic time, taking pause to really align with our intentional choice to work with a particular herb is very, very powerful. Certainly in these challenging times, as life is changing very quickly before our eyes, it is important to take space and practice gratitude for the simple (and very beautiful) things. Taking Reishi for meditation is a great example of this (you can read more about that here).

Whether your approach is one of a creative scientist or a zen master, the tonic herbs are safe, versatile and gentle enough to be used daily and in combination, if you so wish. Include them into your diet in whichever way suits your daily flow. And remember too, any herb is better than none!
